October 10, 2015

Your home is your paradise and if you are planning to renovate your home, goes for the changes that are not only eye catchy but also comfortable for you and your family. Remodeling of the home is associated with revolutions and amendments adjusted in every nook and cranny of the home. If you are going to change the flooring of your home there are some tips for flooring of different parts of you house.

Bedroom flooring:

There are plenty options when it comes to flooring in your bedroom. Being the most private and personalized part of your home, your bedroom is the place which grabs a big part of your budget whenever you are remodeling your home. You can use carpet, tile, hardwood, bamboo, cork or laminate. Play with different materials in different rooms. You can opt for striped light and dark shades in your boy’s room so that if your son is going to create mess, which is unavoidable, the flooring can withstand the burden. Also the flooring can bear heavy traffic of the folks coming in the bedroom. For more powerful scratch and water resistant flooring you can choose laminate.

Living room flooring:

It is the most used part that withholds most of the traffic coming in and out of the house. It is highly recommended that the flooring should be strong enough that it can endure all such amendments done with your furniture or to the increasing and decreasing ratio of visitors. For this purpose you can opt for hardwood flooring. Being classy and sophisticated in look it is the perfect choice for your living room whenever you are remodeling your home.

Kitchen flooring:

Design the floor of your kitchen in such a way that it not only looks pretty but also gives a practical impression. You can choose from vinyl, tile, natural stone, wood, cork or laminate. A floor covering that is water resistant and durable such as tile is a best choice to protect against potential water damage. Make sure when you choose your floor to order a little extra of the product in the event that you drop something like a pot on your floor. If the flooring material is damaged, you will be sure to have enough to repair the floor because often floor manufacturers have high turnover of their products to insure a continual buying cycle. Most flooring contractors add 5-10% additional square footage of the flooring product to their purchase order to insure they have enough for the project and to provide the client with a little extra flooring for future use.

How to Correctly Plan a Room Makeover

May 30, 2014

The rooms people live in are often a reflection of their personality. It is important to carefully plan the makeover of a room in advance, to achieve a look that tells a story. People spend most of their private time in a home so it’s vital the rooms within it are welcoming and relaxing. There are a number of points to consider before starting a new project that all require a little forethought and planning.

An ideas board is often used by some of the top interior designers in Canada today. A cork noticeboard is ideal for the job, as it can be used to pin ideas up and move them around freely. People should start the process by visiting furnishing stores and looking for ideas on the internet. Samples of fabric, wall coverings, curtains, flooring examples and anything else that may define a room, should be attached to the board. It’s always a good idea to ask family and friends for their input on the issue. This process may involve a few weeks of adding and removing ideas; however, it should come to a natural end once the designer is happy with the final selections. Wall coverings, furniture, curtains and accessories, must be included to ensure the room is coordinated when the work is finished.

The first job is usually to strip the room bare and clean it thoroughly. Window frames, doors, walls and floors should all be scrubbed clean. The best way to start a project is with a blank canvass. Many interior designers start a room with a neutral colour scheme. This is a great way of creating the illusion of more space in smaller rooms; it also makes colour coordination much easier. Swathes of colour can then be added. It is important to remember that the ideas board should be referred to but never used as the basis for a final design; ideas should evolve as the job progresses.

The most effective use of colour is of often the most simple. Many people make the mistake of adding too many colours, fabrics and patterns. This can make the room look cluttered and cramped. Subtle colours should be a common feature throughout the room, and the use of patterns should be done so sparingly. Decorating one wall with an attractive design can make a major focal point in the room, without overdoing it.

The majority of homeowners will want to create a feeling of space and light in a room. The best way to do this is by allowing as much natural light in as possible. Leaving a window without curtains can maximize the sunlight during the summer months. The careful placement of mirrors may also create the image of space and light in rooms that are irregular in shape, or are on the small side. Storage units with mirrors at the back can help to create a sense of depth, and add to the overall sense of space. A little experimentation may be required if the final position of mirrors is to be effective.

The real opportunity to personalize a room is through the careful placement of accessories. They should complement the overall colour scheme. You can really express yourself with the inclusion of oddly shaped ornaments, lamps, and candlesticks.  These items can add a little quirkiness, and stamp a person’s taste within a room.
